"The Zodram"
This barrel (Lyra B7) is a tribute to the classic Adam Sandler movie "You Don't Mess With The Zohan". It was in the first set of 100 75/21/4 mashbill MGP bourbon barrels that Joe and Will tasted through to launch the single barrel program for their new Stellum brand. It was aged for 5 years and bottled at 116.32 proof. This is their description of the barrel: "It was fruity and creamy with notes of snickerdoodle and cinnamon donuts with a hint of Highland Scotch." The barrel is extremely short, yielding only about 110 bottles.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Intense cinnamon, popcorn, burnt sugar and ethanol.
Palate: Front and middle are dominated by MGP-standard cherry sweetness with underlying notes of baking spices. The back of the palate yields atypical complexity for a 5 year bourbon with suggestions of corn pudding, orange slices, red jello and allspice.
Finish: Medium in length and highlighting the sweeter notes of the palate more so than the spicier elements.
