Nose: Green apple, vanilla and white pepper consistent with 95/5 MGP rye
Palate: This one starts spice-forward, with notes of nutmeg and cinnamon dominating the front. This can be overwhelming if it persists and luckily it does not, as it shifts to nuanced notes of brown sugar, toasted bread and brown butter. The transitions well into classic MGP cherry flavors on the back end, with corresponding touches of almond and coriander.
Finish: Medium in length and showcasing the sweeter side of the palate.
Overall: MGP ryes are typically excellent. This well-aged barrel adds in complex, gentle notes that bring great breadth. Sip it neat and don’t let your father-in-law mix it with coke.
