"Grateful Yids"
Released June, 2022
This barrel was released to celebrate the one of the greatest touring bands of all time, The Grateful Dead.
Age: 13 years
Type: Light whiskey
Proof: 115
Mash bill: 99% Corn/ 1% Malted Barley
Distillery: MGP
Bottler: J&B
Tasting notes:
Color: For a light whiskey, it's dark. How's that for unexpected contrast?
Nose: The typical candy store light whiskey corn syrupy sweetness is (pleasantly) replaced by more complex notes of butterscotch, cola, vanilla and toasted bread.
Palate: Initial brief notes of cherry Luden's are followed closely tangerine, caramel and brown butter. The back of the palate provides more classic caramel and brown sugar.
Finish: This portion of the gustatory experience is where light whiskies either thrive or fail. The failures have a bitter burnt sugar note that cannot be escaped as the finishes tend to persist either way. This single barrel goes in the thriving category as the finish is long, consonant and redolent of the back of the palate.
