"Death Con 3"
Released November, 2022
Age: 6 years, 5 months
Type: Straight bourbon
Proof: 116.8 proof
Mash bill: 75% Corn/ 21% Rye/ 4% Malted Barley
Distillery: MGP
Bottler: J&B
Tasting notes:
Color: Fresh penny
Nose: Red fruit stripe gum, vanilla custard, clove
Palate: Sweet corn bread (like the kind from north of the Mason-Dixon) is first but it leaves quickly. It's followed by a mouthful of apple, pear, cherry and raspberry. The raspberry is what hangs to the back of the palate where it's met by a distinct honey flavor.
Finish: Long, heavy, sweet whiskeys that lean towards sweet can be polarizing. Those that are pure sweet without any complexity tend to get mundane after an ounce and are better in mixed drinks. This whiskey, however, has building complexity with each sip. It will have a place of this writer's shelf.
